From integrable structures to topological strings and back |

By plane:
Trieste "Ronchi" airport is about 20km north-west of SISSA. From there you can take the APT coach service to Grignano - Line 51, tickets are available from the blue machine just beyond the arrivals gate (cost €2.35) (APT timetable). Ask the driver to stop at the 'centro di fisica', and once you have left the coach continue walking through the tunnels to find SISSA on your left (just after ICTP). (Note that this service runs somewhat less frequently at weekends. Tickets for the return journey must be purchased in advance, either downtown from the bus station next to Trieste Centrale, or from the ICTP infopoint, at the ICTP reception.) Alternatively, take a taxi (cost is around 45€ with a surcharge for luggage). The Venice Airports (Marco Polo and Treviso) are another option for coming to Trieste. From there you'll need to take the coach service (tickets available from the ATVO service desk at the airport foyer) to Venezia Mestre train station and continue on with the train to Trieste Centrale (the duration is one and a half to two hours).
By train:
The main train station is Trieste Centrale, about 5km from SISSA. You'll need to take the 36 bus, a taxi (cost €12), or another local train to the Miramare train station (the service is every half and hour to an hour). Most long distance trains coming to Trieste pass through Venezia Mestre train station, which might involve changing trains at Mestre. In Italy, train tickes should be purchased in advance either from an automatic vending machine or from a sales assistant. Validate your ticket with the yellow machine just before travelling.
By bus:
Take the 36 bus from Piazza Oberdan or the Trieste Centrale (every 20 minutes, and every 10 minutes in summer time). Get off at the stop just beyond the two tunnels, then turn back towards SISSA. Tickets are available from news kiosks, and also the SISSA cafe - you can buy a single ticket, a carnet of 10 tickets or a monthly pass. Validate your ticket once on board the bus.
By car:
One option is to leave the highway from Venice following the signs towards Trieste and Sistiana. Follow the Strada Costiera, and SISSA is on the left as you reach Miramare/Grignano, just after passing through two short tunnels.
