The Amsler surface is a discrete surfaces with constant negative Gaussian curvature and two straight asymptotic lines. The corresponding smooth surface is described by a Painleve solution of the sine-Gordon equation. In the discrete case one has a discrete Painleve and discrete sine-Gordon equation.
