Riemann-Hilbert approach to a random matrix model with
quartic potential
We propose a different method to analyse the
asymptotics of a matrix model that appears in 2D quantum gravity.
The new approach is based upon the steepest descent method of Deift and Zhou for Riemann-Hilbert problems. A special feature is the construction of a local parametrix by means of psi-functions for the Painlevé I equation.
